Mr. Ron BarnesAfter gaining experience at several transit authorities in the Midwest and the Southeast and now the Southwest, Ron Barnes has evolved a vision that focuses on Mobility rather than modes.

In April 2010, Mr. Barnes joined Total Transit as National Business Development, a mobility management firm providing innovative transportation services meeting the mobility needs of its clients.

Prior to joining Total Transit, Mr. Barnes served as Senior advisor for Steer Davies Gleaves, an independent transport consultancy working worldwide across the transport sector, providing innovative, relevant advice and sharing international experience to the marketplace.

Mr. Barnes also served as Regional Vice-President for Veolia Transportation and Deputy Director of Operations for Miami-Dade Transit (MDT).

A transit industry veteran since 1974, Mr. Barnes has provided award-winning initiatives to the transportation industry in an effort to build public trust and awareness of the growing industry.

Mr. Barnes’ leadership has profoundly influenced the internal structure of transportation organizations he served through innovative approaches, including team building, total quality programs, labor relations, re-engineered management, local tool box, referendum and rail development.

In addition, he has influenced the transit industry’s agenda for intermodal mobility management.  In his role as Chair of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), and The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO), Mr. Barnes had the opportunity to share his vision and inspire organizations and transportation professionals around the country.  He currently chairs the APTA Mobility Management Committee responsible for developing a framework for achieving “Transit Vision 2050”.

Mr. Barnes is actively involved in the community and transportation industry service as Chair of the Vision Committee for AZTA Board of Directors; APTA Board of Directors; Vice-Chair of the Mesa Transportation Committee; Strategic Planning Committee of Junior Achievement of Arizona Board of Directors and the Mesa Art Center Foundation Board.
