On the Move Partners in Progress logoUnder Proposition 400 in 2004, Maricopa County voters approved an extension of the half-cent sales tax for transportation. This series highlights projects built under Prop 400 — to let you know where your money is going and how it is improving your transportation experience.

Less congestion and smoother rides that make access to area shopping, dining and recreation easier – that is what are in store for Peoria motorists who travel the Loop 303 between Happy Valley and Lake Pleasant parkways.

“With commerce and development flourishing along this freeway, we look forward to providing an expanded, efficient and safe corridor for traveling to and through our city,” says Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat.

This past fall, construction began on widening the Loop 303 between Happy Valley and Lake Pleasant parkways. The $20.3 million project is funded in part by Proposition 400, a dedicated sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004.

When completed, Loop 303 will have an additional lane in both directions between Happy Valley and Lake Pleasant parkways, making the highway six-lanes wide. In addition, a new Loop 303 traffic interchange for the planned Jomax Parkway will be built, which will connect to the future extension of the parkway west of Loop 303 to Vistancia Boulevard. The project also includes building two new bridges over the Beardsley Canal and Jomax Parkway.

“Where there is transportation, there is economic growth,” said Mayor Carlat. “It is rewarding to see continued regional support and collaboration among Valley cities and jurisdictions to move our economies forward.”

Work on the Loop 303, Happy Valley to Lake Pleasant parkways, project is expected to be complete by early 2022.
